New combs for 2026

Things are tough all over. Inflation has pushed costs up across the board, and with U.S. tariffs and ongoing supply chain challenges, I can no longer offer Dark combs made from recycled paper and natural resin as a standalone retail product.

Dark combs will continue to be available as part of my custom harmonicas.

Over the past several months, I have been developing a replacement that meets my standards. I am now offering black plastic (acrylic) combs that are individually flattened by by hand - by me.

That flatness improves airtightness, tone, and response beyond any stock comb. The tone is nearly as deep as my Dark combs.

The tine tips are polished to gloss for comfort and playability, and the sides and back are left matte for a secure grip. Nobody wants to hold a harmonica that feels like a slippery jellyfish.

Black combs are more affordable than Dark combs and are available only in black (Duh!). I currently offer them for Marine Band, Golden Melody (classic), Hohner MS Series, Suzuki, and Seydel harmonicas.

These combs are built to last a lifetime, very likely longer than the harmonica itself. If you ever do need to dispose of one, the material is fully recyclable.
